Urban Trees Emerge as National Media Issue
Time ran this story on the importance of--and challenges to--America's urban trees. While the article points out that preservation of existing trees is arguably a more important priority than planting new ones (due to the number of years it takes trees to mature and thus affect storm water runoff, heat islands, and air quality), it does mention various stepped-up planting programs around the country. Boston's "Grow Boston Greener" gets an oblique nod. As chairing organization of the Boston Urban Forest Coalition, UEI is at the leading edge of that partnership with the City to plant 100,000 new trees in Boston--so it's nice to see a national newsweekly giving the overall issue some ink.
