Outgrowing Jane Jacobs?

A rather contradictory, but interesting, article on Jane Jacobs' legacy. While the author is right to question The Death and Life of Great American Cities as an infallible text, none of the points he makes are really at odds with the content of the book. The soulless, superficial, and homogenous neighborhood he describes contemporary SoHo as is exactly what Jane Jacobs opposed, and the woman can hardly be faulted for developing a less than comprehensive solution to the "vast and complicated" problems of the modern city. Still, The Death and Life of Great American Cities is a monumental work, but that doesn't shield it from criticism, revision, or improvement.
