Aerotropolis
In the early human civilizations, the river was the center of urban life. As civilizations grew in size and complexity, urban areas became centered around the seaport, then the railroad and most recently highways. Could the airport become the next center of urban life? Professors and students at the most recent Taubman College Design Charrette put this question to the test when approached by the Detroit Wayne County airport authority.

The aerotropolis though very new in conception will lead the way for urban development in many parts of the world for many years to come. After doing just a few days research on the topic it appears as though over 25 major airports are actively making plans to develop in this manner.
