More on the global slum crisis: UN Report

As previously blogged, more people will be living in cities than anywhere else by 2007. This poses dire public health, environmental, and economic (etc.) problems to both slum residents and the cities they inhabit.

Next week, the UN Habitat Programme's third World Urban Forum takes place in Vancouver, BC. Poverty will obviously be a huge topic of discussion, but hopefully the environment will enter into things as well.

More information at the UN Human Settlements Programme (aka UN-Habitat) website. An ironic URL, no?

And see also the BBC's Urban Planet web centre.
