Great Lakes Fisheries News

Southeast Michigan and Southwest Ontario, among the most urbanized areas of the Great Lakes, have seen some interesting fish lately. A sturgeon was found near Bell Isle, which is close to Detroit. The sturgeon had not spawned in the Detroit River from 1970-2001. Scientists are working near Belle Isle and hope for sturgeon to make a comeback in the Detroit area.

A record-breaking, 20 lb. Wiper (hybrid striped bass and white bass) was caught in Lake St. Clair in Canadian waters.

And a plea to law makers to keep Asian Carp out of the Great Lakes.
