Pennsylvania releases its first urban deer management plan

Where no hunting is allowed and there are no predators, white tailed deer cause enormous amounts of crop and landscape damage. In some areas, their population are so high that plant nursery owners can be put out of business due to excessive herbivory.

In rural and suburban areas, deer browse so much that they have completely eliminated the understory of the forest, which means that the next generation of trees coming up below the elders may not be there in time to replace the dead ones. Or forest diversity will be lost in favor of trees that the deer to not prefer.

Save a tree, eat a deer!
