A Senate report places blame on the Red Cross's organizational inefficiencies during the Katrina debacle. Over ordering food, putting volunteers in expensive hotels, and failure to coordinate efforts with local relief organizations are just some of the problems that the report cites.
Although the Red Cross should be analyzed to see how it could perform better in the future, it seems like this article's timing is just about right for someone with sagging approval ratings. Last week, and this week at Mardi Gras protests, people were reminding the Administration of it failure during Katrina. Article after article about the Senate report was talking about the failures of the government during the response. Thank you, L.A. Times, for this much needed article to remove the attention off of bigger government failures.
