Recent research on past climate

Recent research shows that a rise in temperatures 55 million years ago caused a major disruption in global ocean currents. Current research shows that the Gulf Stream's delivery of warm water to the North Atlantic- and Europe for that matter- is weakening. This could lead to some profound changes in primary productivity in both sea and land, which of course implies a major shift of the distribution of organisms throughout the world.
