Meeting Baltimore's Urban Tree Cover Goal
An urban watershed group in Baltimore received a $48,000 grant last week to plant thousands of trees in the Herring Run watershed in that city. These trees will help the City of Baltimore meet its ambitious goal of expanding its urban tree canopy cover from 20% to 40% of the city in the next 30 years. Organizations in Boston, New York, Pittsburgh and other cities in the Urban Ecology Collaborative are working to set their urban tree cover goals in the months to come.
