Next you're in a bookstore or a library, take a gander at the latest issue of National Geographic. In addition to an awesome article on army ants, there's more on the heartbreak and devastation still alive in New Orleans, the cover story on one of the worst hurrican seasons on record, and a brief but radical essay by Bill McKibben.
Pieces of the first three articles are available online, and hopefully the McKibben essay becomes available soon. In it he argues for a new decision-making paradigm based not on economic growth, but on carbon emissions; environmentalism as community-building; local food; faith-based environmentalists; and hope.
