China is kicking our behind in science, so should we take a page out of their book?

China is kicking us left and right in science and math education. This author of this articles shares some of observations on a recent trip to China and some startling facts. Before people cry foul about increasing math and science education by saying that it will take less time away from nurturing creativity, I say, remember that our education system was designed by people that wanted to prepare students to be worker drones. The US is now in the information age, and our educational system still operates in the industrial age in many ways.

However, fostering creativity is one of the important factors in the US' success. You can teach science and math and still have creativity. Get 'er done!

Exactly. I think Bill Bryson's humorous science stories from "A Short History of Nearly Everything" or something similar could become engaging textbooks. It's really hard to add more reading or interesting background on top of the actual science, but I bet the retention levels would skyrocket.
