Water Quality: Tufts working on mercury problem

The MWRA's treatment facilities are not capable of removing heavy metals, such as mercury, from the water. So the MWRA and Tufts are working to reduce or eliminate heavy metals and hazardous chemicals emitted from the university's chemical laboratories.

Tufts no longer uses mercuery in its chemistry labs and has not for several years, but many of the mercury emissions have been traced back to the university.
