Sequoias on the Common
I can't find a link online anywhere, but yesterday's Metro had an article about an eco-prankster who planted two baby sequoias on the Boston Common in the hopes that they would grow to become a part of Boston's skyline. Say what you will ("Non-native species!" sez' Kyle. "What about appropriate plantings in tree-impoverished neighborhoods?"), I think it's cool, even if it's really not saying much.

It's not just that they're non-native, but it's also that they probably won't get as big as he hopes them to in the first place. The climate and soil here are so different in comparison to California that they'll probably die within a couple of decades.
Also, the Commons have lots of greenery. If he really wanted to make a statement, he'd have planted those trees in the concrete jungles of Roxbury and Dorchester.
but at least this person got everyone thinking about planting trees in the city
