Opinion article on Mexican Drug legalization

This article is in favor the drug bill that did not pass last week in Mexico. It does offer some clarification as to what the bill would have done. Contrary to articles previously posted, it sheds some light on what the law actually says, such as that it would not have made an unlimited amount of drugs legal. It would have established a legal quantity for users. Right now, there is no legal amount established. So drug traffickers and dealers can present themselves in front of a judge with literally thousands of dollars of cocaine in evidence and claim that they are addicts. This has allowed many narcos to escape prison time. It also would have allowed local police more power, well, to police.

Whether you agree with the author of article or not is another matter, but at least this does present some facts about the bill that seem to have been deliberately unmentioned in many articles on this subject.
