Is this their solution to everything?

The White House's Katrina review has just come out, detailing 100 recommendations for future disaster response. One of the suggestions is that the military play a larger role. First of all, if National Guard units would have actually been present in greater numbers in Louisiana, the National Guard could have done one of their duties during this crisis. Instead, most of them were away in overseas conflicts. So the military should be spread even more thin and be trained to kill people, blow things up, rebuild countries, and police and rebuild the nation during times of crisis. You know, it's not that easy to flip on and off that mental switch repeatedly. I wonder if they consulted any soldiers and asked them what they think of this plan.

Domestic terror? Send it the military. Natural disaster? Send it the military. Bird Flu? Send it the military. Food shortages after a natural disaster? Send it the military.

Apparently, they are still suffering from a failure of imagination.
