"The ANWR provision was attached to a major defense bill, forcing many opponents of oil and gas exploration in the barren northern Alaska range to vote for it. The bill, passed 308-106, also included money for hurricane relief and bird flu preventive measures."
This is just effing rediculous. This riders were attached to bills that tackle important issues, such as Katrina Relief and the Avian Flu. Oh, and to make at least an attempt to go back fiscal conservatism, healthcare and education have suffered cuts in the new spending bills. Bravo, clap, clap. Billions of dollars spent to pull out the amount of oil that we use in a year (and could save by increasing the overall mileage of our car fleets), which will only benefit a few people. Or education and healthcare, which in the long run will benefit the country's economy.
