Much like the Italian, Irish, and German gangs of the 19th and mid-20th centuries had criminal ties to their homelands, today a gang in L.A. has been using the U.S.' deportation policy to its advantage by setting up new cells in Central America, using Salvadorean prisons as 'colleges,' and then re-sending members to various parts of the U.S.- including the North East. Welcome to globalization Gansta style.
The gang in question, MS-13, is not the first urban gang of the last quarter century to disperse members throughout the world. Several black urban gangs that formed in the 1970s now have members in throughout Middle America, parts of Africa and even Germany.
